Sneak Preview: Ninjasonik & Sisko In Min Max Studios, NYC

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN: Last week we visited Brooklyn-based electro-rap duo Ninjasonik in the studio with producer David “Sisko” Siskovic. In the home stretch of tracking their upcoming full-length album, Peter Pan Syndrome, Ninjasonik’s Telli and Jah-Jah let us into their free-wheeling creative process and played us rough mixes of a couple new Sisko-produced tracks.

The new material is an electro-hip-hop pastiche of dance floor beats and addictive synth rhythms and riffs with sing-along hooks. These are Ninjasonik party anthems, for sure, but with a rich, blown-out production that kicks the fun up to another level from the hipster house party jams of their debut full-length, Art School Girls.

Sisko – who’s one-half the songwriting and remix team Disco Pusher (Justin Timberlake, Duran Duran, Santogold) – fell right in with Ninjasonik in the studio, providing classic and modern production muscle that seems to both inspire and help articulate their particular hipster-hop sound.

Other producers on Peter Pan Syndrome include Ben Bronfman (also founder of Ninjasonik’s label, Green Owl), Jimmy Harry out of Los Angeles and The Party Squad out of Amsterdam. The group expects to finish out the album at Sisko’s Min Max Studio in the coming weeks. Look out for our feature on the making of this record closer to its release date, in June 2011.

And in the meantime, check out their recently released mixtape “When Anxiety Attacks,” a frenetic sampling of Ninjasonik antics largely produced by DJ Roofeeo, with tracks featuring M.I.A., Lil’ B, Trouble Andrew, Ducksauce and others. Get it here!
