RIP Nick Ashford – Hit Songwriter and NYC Cornerstone

August 23, 2011 by

SonicScoop was saddened to hear of the passing of Nick Ashford at age 69, due to throat cancer. One half of the legendary duo Ashford & Simpson, New York City was his home for almost five decades. Together, the pair co-wrote such monumental hits as “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing,” and “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand).”

"Solid" from 1984-1985 was the highest-charting hit of Ashford & Simpson.

Steve Jones of USA Today wrote one of many fitting tributes to the great Motown songwriter. It can be read here.
