Today, the Boston-based developer announced the arrival of ScratchPad for iPad. The app’s expansive interface is designed to give studio pros, live performance musicians, and the casual thrill-seeker alike quick access to beat and group creation.

ScratchPad is available now on Apple’s iTunes Store for $7.99.

Using the tools onscreen, users have a handy (literally) way to tweak, scratch, stutter loops —  beat and groove creation is as simple as dragging and dropping multi-genre loops onto each of nine Expression Pads.

The sounds can then be manipulated on the fly via Cakewalk’s performance-oriented special-effects, which include an XY filter pad.

ScratchPad keeps tempos locked in an loops consistently in sync. Once they’re done, users can record and playback performances directly from ScratchPad’s browser.

Content is preloaded, and users can also import their own loops using dropbox. In addition, ScratchPad can route to other apps through the app-connecting platform Audiobus.
