New Music Seminar 2012 Conference Announced for June 17-19, 2012 in NYC

The New Music Seminar (NMS) has announced its return to New York City. The event, held last year in Los Angeles, will take place June 17-19, 2012.
The goal of NMS is it to inform attendees on the rapidly evolving and diversifying new music industry. Clear Channel CEO Bob Pittman will present the keynote speech to preface the Opening Night Party at Webster Hall on June 17th. Mr. Pittman was instrumental in working with the team that developed Clear Channel’s new iHeartRadio digital radio platform.
The location for the subsequent two days of music industry-specific seminars and networking will be announced soon.
New this years is The SoundExchange Digital Broadcasting Summit, which will highlight growth opportunities in digital music broadcasting, bringing together minds from across the digital music streaming landscape including iHeartRadio, Pandora, Spotify, hundreds of webcasters and myriad on-line music and video exposure vehicles. Participants will discuss business models, challenges and innovative solutions in developing, monetizing, and promoting their platforms. The New York Songwriter’s Collective, founded by songwriter/producer Peter Bliss (Peter Wolf, Paula Abdul, NSYNC), will hold a one-day intensive seminar “The Recording Songwriter” on Saturday, December 3rd.
The seminar will be held from 10:30 AM-4:30 PM at Shetler Studios, 244 West 54th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue) in Manhattan. The workshop fee is $135, and membership in the NYSC is required ($25 annual membership fee).
This workshop is intended to make emerging songwriters ready to record demos by explaining the home recording studio process. Along with the basics of digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, and Digital Performer, the art of pre-production will be explored thoroughly.

The 5th Annual New England Music Seminar (NEMS) will take place this Saturday, October 22nd at the Bushnell Theater in Hartford, CT.
Now in its fifth year, the New England Music Seminar was created for artists, managers, producers, entertainment entrepreneurs, record labels, production companies, and other music industry professionals.
According to NEMS, the goal of The New England Music Seminar is to empower, connect and educate people interested in pursuing a career in the music business, by providing an opportunity for participants to interact with key business professionals in the vast career fields the industry has to offer.

An annual event held in NYC, this year’s Caribbean Cultural Music Conference will take place in Manhattan on September 22-23.
The festival, produced by the Caribbean American Cultural Caucus brings together entertainment industry stakeholders to explore and examine the obstacles confronting the advancement of the Caribbean entertainment industry.
Strategies that will positively affect issues related to production, management, intellectual property, distribution and marketing of the Caribbean entertainment product are at the conference’s forefront.

ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers), the leading U.S. performing rights organization, and Music Unites, a non-profit organization supporting musical artists and professionals through performance and education opportunities, have teamed up to present four workshops on integral aspects of the music business.
The third of four sessions, “Managers — When and Why You Need Them” will be held on Tuesday January 18 2011 at Norwood, 241 West 14th Street, New York, NY, focusing on management and featuring a panel of industry insiders including:
- Dawn Barger from Post Hoc Management (Nicole Atkins, The National)
- Melissa Emert-Hutner from Hoseb Management (Ethan Allen, Anna Wayland)
- James Johnson from Pilot Creative Services, Inc. (Benny Blanco, Neon Hitch)

Previous ASCAP/Music Unites workshops focused on music publishing, and artists’ DIY options. Tekserve is hosting a free Ableton Live seminar on Friday, December 10th at 2 PM featuring multi-instrumentalist Erin Barra.
Barra will display her “One Woman Army” approach to electronic songwriting, demonstrating her use of Live for vocal processing, looping, remixing and performing. New users to advanced practitioners should expect to learn a multitude of tips and tricks.
Barra regularly uses Ableton Live to manipulate multiple control surfaces in conjunction with a vintage Wurlitzer and Hohner Melodica. In the reinterpretation of her material, Barra allows the audience to watch her produce, perform and arrange tracks LIVE, in a unique take on the Live Remix.

Sennheiser Sound Academy Studio Recording Seminar At The Fuse Box @ Manhattan Center, 8/11

On Wednesday, August 11, the Sennheiser Sound Academy will host a session on key recording techniques, concepts and practices at The Fuse Box @ Manhattan Center Studios.
Jim Anderson, past president of the AES and a professor at the Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music at NYU, will be the guest engineer for the tracking portion of the seminar.
The seminar will be led by Sennheiser’s Chris Spahr, who oversees national market development for live sound and studio markets. Spahr has performed live sound work for concerts, corporate functions and theater applications, and spent five years as a staff engineer at Criteria Studios in Miami, FL working on music, TV and film projects.
