My Mix Angle: The mission of a mixer should be to amplify the vision of the artist and producer. And we are there to make things work, not tell them why it won’t!

For Example:

At MixCon, I’m Focusing On The Neo Soul Mix Because: The choices we make in mixing should be heavily based on genre. Accurately assessing where the music sits in that spectrum is very important. Soul music is heavily beat-and-bottom focused, yet the vocal always needs to be the main focus.

Sneak Preview: We’ll be looking at techniques to identify and create the levels of focus for the different elements of the track. There should always be a hierarchy; primary level of focus, secondary, etc. The tough thing is that despite that hierarchy, we still need to be able to clearly hear all elements in the track at all times.

Then, there’s the X-factor…does it rock? In addition, we’ll cover my personal approaches to ambience, EQ, and compression.

I Love Leading Audio Workshops Because…: After being in studios since 1973, I am still insanely passionate and amazed by what comes out of the speakers.
