NYC Event: Studio 7 Grand Re-Opening at Manhattan Center Studios – 7/13

Fresh off hosting MixCon 2017, Manhattan Center is putting one of its crown jewel studios squarely in the spotlight.

Studio 7, the recording and mixing facility directly connected to their famed Grand Ballroom, is officially re-opening after a complete renovation. The launch will be celebrated on Thursday, July 13th, from 6-8 PM.

The massive 96-channel Neve VR has been decommissioned, updated with a new Lawo mc₂56 (80 fader) console, complemented by 48 channels of Millennia preamps, 64 DAD A-D converters, Pro Tools 12, and a UAD Octo w/UAD 2 ultimate bundle. The kicker: a surround system with ATC SCM110 LCR monitors that power a moving 5.1 surround experience.

The very first film score in cinematic history was recorded in the adjoining Grand Ballroom in 1926, for Warner Brothers’ Don Juan, starring John Barrymore and Mary Astor. Studio 7 is designed for optimal capture of the room’s acoustics for orchestral film scores, live concerts, album recordings, and Broadway shows.

Studio 7 and the Grand Ballroom are a hub for NYC film score recording. Academy Award-winning film scores and Oscar-nominated soundtracks have been recorded in the Grand Ballroom, including Interview with a Vampire, Fargo, Batman Forever, The Red Violin, You’ve Got Mail, Everything Is Illuminated, TinTin, Frida (which won an Oscar for composer Elliot Goldenthal, Across the Universe and many more.

The Grand Ballroom is on the 7th Floor of the Manhattan Center, 311. W. 34th Street. Refreshments will be served at the event. To RSVP, email Obie O’Brien, Director of Audio and Video Production, oobrien@mc34.com.

The new sound at Studio 7 centers on a Lawo digital console and ATC monitors.
